DEEP Powder in BC! http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/04/06/deep-powder-in-bc/ http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/04/06/deep-powder-in-bc/#comments Fri, 06 Apr 2012 17:15:28 +0000 Greg http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/?p=468 Check out this incredible video of heliskiing in Valemount in early March.  I’m not sure how the heli was even able to land and take off without disappearing…

Not only did British Columbia have a phenomenal 2012 season, but eleven of the heliskiing areas we work with in BC are extending 2010 pricing for the 2013 season through April 30, 2012.

Contact Expedition Broker for details and book your seat in the heli this month to save big!

Aaron hooked into a nice Steelhead on Tuesday, the first I’ve ever seen produced out of Haines.  I’ve heard stories for years, but now I’ve witnessed it firsthand.  Not sure who was more stoked! Haines Alaska Steelhead - Aaron Moscowicz

Aaron’s wife is 8 months pregnant back in Los Angeles, and obviously extremely understanding while the boys fulfill a life long dream to ride in AK!  Wishing them all the best with their new addition arriving in a month’s time.Choosing Lines Haines Heliskiing

Alaska Fly Fishing Goods http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/03/30/alaska-fly-fishing-goods/ http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/03/30/alaska-fly-fishing-goods/#comments Fri, 30 Mar 2012 18:05:45 +0000 Greg http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/?p=441 Have a trip planned to the Kobuk to chase Sheefish and don’t know what rod or reel to bring?  Need a custom order of flies for the trip?  No problem, Alaska Fly Fishing Goods is here to help.

Their site is a great resource for everything from learning about the life cycle of Dolly Varden to videos on how to tie flies for catching Silvers.

There’s a lot of fly fishing power in their shop on Franklin Street in Juneau, and their crew’s enthusiasm for helping people catch fish is evident over the phone or in person.  Brad Elfers and the rest of the gang are guides, writers and instructors, and live for fly fishing.Alaska Fly Fishing Goods

We’re also approaching the delivery date of my favorite newsletter of the year from them on April 1st.  It usually involves things like three-handed spey rods or demolition of downtown Juneau to make room for Steelhead habitat.  If you dig fly fishing in Alaska or just want some laughs for April 1st, contact Alaska Fly Fishing Goods and get on their mailing list.

Tuesdays with Mountains http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/03/23/tuesdays-with-mountains/ http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/03/23/tuesdays-with-mountains/#comments Sat, 24 Mar 2012 01:04:06 +0000 Greg http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/?p=430 The glaring sunshine and 30 feet of snow was too tempting to resist Tuesday morning.  Three of us headed out at 7am for some laps at an easy access spot by snowmachine.  All desk jockeys, we had a 1pm deadline to return to our respective offices. Old Faithful, Haines, Alaska

We could get 1500′ shots of perfect powder through a mix of alpine meadows, trees and pillow lines and then race back up on  the sled.  Nice to have friends with big machines.  The four stroke Yamaha had no problem having two of us ride in tandem, pulling a third.3 Guys 1 Sled, Haines, Alaska

With a little over a month left to the Heliski season in Alaska, it’s not too late for you to get your powder quota in for the year.  We’re still getting last minute bookings for Haines, Valdez and Girdwood and conditions don’t get much better!  Guides are stoked.  Film crews are stoked.  Clients are stoked.  Why aren’t you?Perfect Conditions, Haines, Alaska

Not as big a drop as expected

Alaska Steelhead Fishing http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/02/14/alaska-steelhead-fishing/ http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/02/14/alaska-steelhead-fishing/#comments Wed, 15 Feb 2012 06:27:11 +0000 Greg http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/?p=419 We’re fortunate to offer an incredible opportunity aboard M/V Perseverance this Spring for mothership-style Alaska Steelhead fly fishing.  It doesn’t get much better than having your own floating lodge during Steelhead season in Southeast Alaska.

Alaska Steelead Fly Fishing

The captain and crew of M/V Perseverance have teamed up with local guides in the Wrangell area to fish remote waters, inaccessible to lodge traffic.  Sight-cast to Steelhead in crystal clear streams and experience only 2 anglers per guide.

The 83 foot M/V Perseverance offers accommodations for up to eight guests.  Fish all day, and relax in the Perseverance’s onboard hot tub at night.  Fresh Alaskan Crab, Spot Prawns, Halibut and Salmon are featured each night and exquisitely prepared by your personal onboard chef.

6 and 7 day trips are available departing out of Wrangell on April 29th, May 6th and May 13th, 2012.  Contact Expedition Broker for further details regarding this one of a kind Steelhead experience.

Home Sweet Haines http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/01/17/home-sweet-haines/ http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/01/17/home-sweet-haines/#comments Wed, 18 Jan 2012 00:16:20 +0000 Greg http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/?p=403 A short film called Last Light was recently released by Sweetgrass Productions featuring Patagonia ambassadors Stephan Drake (DPS Skis), Johan Jonsson and Forrest Shearer.  The three hike and ride lines around Haines, Alaska with the assistance of Drake Olson as pilot.

Artistic shots and soulful music complete this showcase of our local mountains.  A few years ago, I recall running into Drake heading off the Haines Highway an hour before sunset to ski in the alpenglow.  We were headed home from a day of touring, he was headed out.  This film captures those magical moments in the mountains.

Drake Olson-Alaska Wing Men http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/01/09/drake-olson-on-alaska-wing-men/ http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/2012/01/09/drake-olson-on-alaska-wing-men/#comments Tue, 10 Jan 2012 01:43:17 +0000 Greg http://expeditionbroker.com/blog/?p=383 My office mate, Drake Olson, makes his National Geographic Channel debut tonight on Alaska Wing Men at 10PM et/pt.

Here’s what NatGeo has to say about the show:

Airplanes are the lifeblood of Alaska, transporting critical supplies and rescuing the lost and injured in areas where roads don’t reach.  But violent weather and extreme terrain make these the most dangerous skies in the country, and bush pilots often go beyond the call of duty to get the job done.  Alaska Wing Men goes inside this perilous profession to witness firsthand the risks they face.

Film crews are a little obsessed with Alaska right now.  But if you can stomach one more reality show about the 49th State, watching Drake always makes for quality entertainment.
