A few highlights of their trip so far include getting a taste of the endless terrain surrounding Haines and fly fishing on our local rivers.

Aaron hooked into a nice Steelhead on Tuesday, the first I’ve ever seen produced out of Haines.  I’ve heard stories for years, but now I’ve witnessed it firsthand.  Not sure who was more stoked!

Aaron’s wife is 8 months pregnant back in Los Angeles, and obviously extremely understanding while the boys fulfill a life long dream to ride in AK!  Wishing them all the best with their new addition arriving in a month’s time.

There’s been big smiles all around this week.  The season runs until the end of April and it’s never too early to be planning for 2013 in Haines, Alaska!

Their site is a great resource for everything from learning about the life cycle of Dolly Varden to videos on how to tie flies for catching Silvers.

There’s a lot of fly fishing power in their shop on Franklin Street in Juneau, and their crew’s enthusiasm for helping people catch fish is evident over the phone or in person.  Brad Elfers and the rest of the gang are guides, writers and instructors, and live for fly fishing.

We’re also approaching the delivery date of my favorite newsletter of the year from them on April 1st.  It usually involves things like three-handed spey rods or demolition of downtown Juneau to make room for Steelhead habitat.  If you dig fly fishing in Alaska or just want some laughs for April 1st, contact Alaska Fly Fishing Goods and get on their mailing list.

We could get 1500′ shots of perfect powder through a mix of alpine meadows, trees and pillow lines and then race back up on  the sled.  Nice to have friends with big machines.  The four stroke Yamaha had no problem having two of us ride in tandem, pulling a third.

With a little over a month left to the Heliski season in Alaska, it’s not too late for you to get your powder quota in for the year.  We’re still getting last minute bookings for Haines, Valdez and Girdwood and conditions don’t get much better!  Guides are stoked.  Film crews are stoked.  Clients are stoked.  Why aren’t you?

First heli-groups are headed out this week.  Three months remain of the ski season.  Make it happen!

The captain and crew of M/V Perseverance have teamed up with local guides in the Wrangell area to fish remote waters, inaccessible to lodge traffic.  Sight-cast to Steelhead in crystal clear streams and experience only 2 anglers per guide.

The 83 foot M/V Perseverance offers accommodations for up to eight guests.  Fish all day, and relax in the Perseverance’s onboard hot tub at night.  Fresh Alaskan Crab, Spot Prawns, Halibut and Salmon are featured each night and exquisitely prepared by your personal onboard chef.

Artistic shots and soulful music complete this showcase of our local mountains.  A few years ago, I recall running into Drake heading off the Haines Highway an hour before sunset to ski in the alpenglow.  We were headed home from a day of touring, he was headed out.  This film captures those magical moments in the mountains.
