Bella Coola – Tweedsmuir Lodge

Bella Coola – Tweedsmuir Lodge

The perfect combination of a luxury lodge, gourmet dining, massive ski & showboard terrain, all in a wilderness setting with a heli in the front yard. The range of mountains from Bella Coola south to Mt. Waddington, are some of the most dramatic and scenic anywhere in the world. Many peaks and whole valleys remain unnamed. No towns, no roads, no ski lifts, no competition.

The Heliskiing

The Coast Range, where Bella Coola is located, is first in line to receive copious amounts of snow from storms coming from the Pacific Ocean. Tweedsmuir Lodge is situated on the lee side of the Coast Range. With an abundance of snow to the west and a sunnier, drier influence pushing in from the East, this location is ideal for a heliski operation. During storm cycles you can ski trees close to the lodge, but during high pressure, big snow zones await to the West. There are always fresh tracks to be found.

The snow pack in Bella Coola is known for being significantly more stable than other regions. This is a direct result of the location’s consistent and temperate climate, combined with reliable and plentiful snowfall. Although safety is always priority #1, expect to access steper and more interesting terrain than many other operators.

High alpine terrain scattered with jagged rock towers, giant glacier bowls and steep couloirs awaits at Bella Coola. Many runs are 5,000 to 6,000 vertical feet with the longest yielding 7,000 vertical feet of leg-burning utopia.

Tweedsmuir Lodging & Operations

The historic Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is set on 60 acres of private land within British Columbia’s largest protected park. Accommodations at Tweedsmuir Lodge are provided in one of nine private chalets with a main lodge featuring ample common space for dining, games and socializing. It is the perfect setting for larger groups wanting to book the entire facility, yet intimate enough that individuals and couples will feel at home. The lodge has a maximum capacity of 18 people per week.

West Coast inspired cuisine accompanied by a wine list that includes a selection of fine international bottles as well as the best of the up and coming local BC wineries.

Private Tweedsmuir Programs

Just you and your buddies, a helicopter, guides, and the whole Bella Coola tenure is yours! This program is based on flying time rather than vertical, offering you the ability to decide how to use your heli time. Whether your goal is to explore new terrain, maximize your vertical, or look for the best snow, the choice is yours. You can use your flying time to stop at the oceanside hot springs for lunch and a soak and then back up for more heliskiing in the afternoon. Astar B2 helicopters have room for four people and one guide. A one week package features 8 hours of flying time included.

Tweedsmuir Lodge’s semi-private program is perfect from groups of 8 people. This provides all the benefits of the private package, but allows a larger group to share the costs. Semi-private program includs 14 hours of heli time and is ideal for two groups of four skiers, each with their own guide.

Vertical Program

Enjoy the same legendary terrain and luxury accommodations as the private heli options, but with a set amount of heliskiing included. Perfect for small groups, individuals and couples. If you prefer to heliski with just your friends, the magic number is 4 in the heli. 3, 4, 5 & 7 night stays are available, but during prime season 7 nights is standard.
