Pow and Bows

Pow and Bows

Heliskiing and fly fishing combos have proved to be “Bucket-List” experiences in places such as the Tordrillos and Kamchatka. Expedition Broker has put together a unique trip combining deep powder, small group heliskiing in the Chugach Mountains with fly fishing for trophy Rainbow Trout on the Kenai River.

Heliskiing out of Girdwood not only opens up a huge portion of the Western Chugach for steeps, spines and powder seekers, but also has a world-class resort and catskiing as back-up for down days. This reliability to ski every day is perfect for a short stay in Girdwood prior to fly fishing on the Kenai.

“Uncrowded’ and “Kenai River” are three words rarely combined. But if you are willing to put up with the potential for cold weather, the Kenai holds trophy trout throughout the month of April prior to its closure in May. Holes like the Dunes, Super Hole and Rainbow Alley are waiting for you and your friends, and you’ll probably only see your group on the river!

The Heliskiing & Fly Fishing

The massive terrain of the Western Chugach has been luring heliskiers and film crews for years. just your four friends and your guide will utilize an A-Star Eurocopter to access remote lines. Catskiing and resort skiing are available for the unfortunate down day and lodging is provided at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.

Fly fishing on the Kenai River in April is not for everyone. A sense of adventure and an open mind are key this time of year. You may be asked to help push your drift boat across a frozen lake. You might be asked to shuttle a truck to make a one-way float possible. The weather might be 20 degrees out and your guides on your fly rod may freeze. But who likes worst case scenarios? You also get the chance to catch 30″ Rainbows completely by yourself on a river that typically hosts 400,000 fishermen in a summer!

Lodging

Many options are available for lodging on the Kenai and our inclusive package will be tailored to your group size.

Many airports in the lower 48 have direct flights to Anchorage. From Anchorage, Girdwood is less than an hour drive from the airport. After your heliskiing portion of your trip, the Kenai River is less than an hour and a half along Turnagain Arm and through an extraordinarily scenic pass.
