Brian contacted Expedition Broker in the Spring of 2017 with interest in arranging an Alaska yacht charter for his family. Struggling to rally his family around dates for a charter, he switched his focus on a custom trip for him and his wife incorporating floatplane access throughout Southeast Alaska. Brian commercially fished in a previous life in Alaska and wanted to return to some of his favorite out of the way places he had visited in his youth.
We worked out an itinerary incorporating floatplane flights into Pack Creek Bear Sanctuary on Admiralty Island out of Juneau with continued flights into Tenakee Springs. Tenakee is a small community on the eastern shore of Chichagof Island with no cars and a single foot path through town. We arranged a couple of days of fishing, whale watching and exploring Chatham Strait and Tenakee Inlet with Tuck Harry of Fishing Bear Charters. From Tenakee an additional floatplane flight had them in the beautiful coastal community of Sitka on Baranof Island. A day of saltwater fishing with Paul Fitzgibbons of Alaska Getaway filled their freezer boxes with king salmon and halibut.
King Salmon returns were quite poor in Southeast Alaska in 2017, closing many areas early in the summer and forcing a full closure for both commercial and sport fishing late in the season. Brian and Allison lucked out on their Alaska king salmon fishing as they snuck in between closures and fished with some great captains who got them on fish!
We’re looking forward to working with them for a future trip to Alaska in the coming years!
