Alaska Ski & Fish

Cast and Carve

Cast and Carve

Come experience five days of non-stop action and adventure in the heart of the Alaskan Wilderness!! The Kings and Corn summer action-adventure trip features King Salmon fishing, corn-snow heliskiing, and whitewater rafting. All activities are heli-supported, enabling access to the best the Alaskan Bush has to offer.

Guests heli ski the Tordrillo Mountains of the Alaska Range. Astounding views of these mountains are present in all directions from the lodge. Ski days typically begin in the morning and end by mid-afternoon. When conditions are right your guides may launch the helicopter for the opportunity to ski in the Alaskan midnight sun, topping off the day. Each run consists of velvety corn snow with an average vertical of approximately 3,000 feet.

King salmon and trophy rainbow trout fishing is done on the famous Yentna and Skwentna Rivers. The helicopter shuttles guests into remote stretches of these rivers where you fish the banks or inflate rafts to float and fish your way to a designated pick-up. The average size of these fish is 30 lbs but a 50 lb catch is not unusual. Although fishing skills are helpful, prior experience with king salmon is not critical.

The Fishing & Heliskiing

Corn snow, the result of melt-freeze cycles, is ideal for heliskiing & boarding- It even holds up well in margaritas. Pebble-size kernals of softening ice have a soft carvable surface and your guides are experienced harvesters who know how to predict the best timing for the best locations. Count on corn runs during the morning hours, or at the end of the day, after the cooling has refrozen the round crystals. One highlight is experiencing skiing big mountain terrain in a T-shirt in 75 degree weather!

Tordrillo Mountain Lodge is located in the headwaters of the prolific Talachulitna River. TML doesn’t own these rivers, but their remote location combined with heli-access puts competition out of the picture. In almost 20 years of heli fishing these waters, they still rarely compete with other anglers when fishing for King Salmon, trophy Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char and Grayling.
