MY LADY ALASKA

MY LADY ALASKA

A ten‑guest private Alaska yacht charter slips away from the docks in Juneau, its bow pointed toward a maze of islands, fjords, and untouched coastline. The pace is unhurried—this is a voyage designed for immersion, not itinerary‑checking. As the vessel threads through Stephens Passage and into the island‑studded waters beyond, guests settle into a rhythm shaped by tide, wildlife, and the quiet hum of the yacht. Each day brings new anchorages: secluded coves fringed with old‑growth forest, narrow inlets where waterfalls spill down granite walls, and open channels where humpback whales bubble‑net feed in choreographed bursts of spray and sound. Bald eagles perch on spruce branches like sentinels, sea otters float belly‑up in the kelp beds, and black bears forage along the shoreline at low tide. For those who want to cast a line, the crew sets up rods for halibut, salmon, and rockfish—fresh catch often becomes dinner, prepared minutes after leaving the water. Glacier views are often available along the loose and flexible itinerary

Additional option includes a week‑long Katmai National Park brown bear experience. A floatplane shuttles guests between the Kodiak to the vessel and Katmai’s famed bear‑viewing areas. Days are spent watching massive coastal brown bears fishing, grazing, and interacting in their natural habitat—often at remarkably close yet safe distances. Evenings return guests to the comfort of the yacht, where gourmet meals, warm cabins, and the quiet of the surrounding wilderness create a rare blend of adventure and luxury. This optional extension transforms the voyage into a once‑in‑a‑lifetime immersion in two of Alaska’s most iconic ecosystems.

Captain & Crew

John Tinghino is a seasoned mariner and licensed 200‑Ton USCG captain with more than a decade of experience running private charters across some of Alaska’s most remote and awe‑inspiring waters. Known for his calm professionalism and deep respect for the ocean, John has built a reputation as a captain who blends technical expertise with an infectious enthusiasm for the natural world.

During the offseason, John makes his home in Kodiak, Alaska, where he enjoys a quieter rhythm of life with his wife and child. When he’s not on the water, he can often be found traveling to free dive and enjoy tropical localities as well as experimenting with new dishes in the kitchen, or capturing the rugged beauty of Alaska through photography. These passions shape the way he approaches each voyage—always curious, always observing, always appreciating the details that make Alaska extraordinary.

For John, the true reward of charter work isn’t measured in miles traveled or fish landed. His favorite moments are the ones when guests witness Alaska’s marine life in all its raw, breathtaking glory—whether it’s a humpback whale surfacing beside the bow, a raft of otters drifting in the kelp, or the sudden flash of an eagle diving for its catch. Seeing clients experience these wonders for the first time is, in his words, “the best part of the job,” and it’s what continues to inspire him year after year on the water.
